Health and Safety

Commonly asked questions about keeping yourself and your team healthy.

Should I download the COVIDSafe app?

Yes! We strongly encourage all club members who have a smartphone to download and install the COVIDSafe app. In th unlikely event you, someone you know or even someone you don't know contracts COVID-19, the information stored securely in your phone will help Queensland Health's contact tracing teams identify who else might be at risk.

I have a cold or the flu or someone in my family has a cold or the flu - should I come to training?

No. If if you have any symptoms of a cold or the flu (runny nose, cough, sneezing, high temperature), do not come to training. f you have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, you should get tested immediately. Please inform our secretary Adrian Pate on ph 0432 699 568 , or email him on aranaascot@gmail.com if your child or any other member of your family tests positive.

For further advice you should consult (call) your doctor or 13HEALTH.

Where can I get tested for COVID-19?

If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, you can visit:

Your local doctor

Before your appointment, please call ahead and tell them about your symptoms so they can prepare for your visit.

Fever clinics

Fever clinics are specialist clinics to assess people who may be infected with COVID-19. These clinics help to keep people who may be contagious away from other areas of hospitals and health centers. This helps to reduce the potential spread of the virus and keeps the emergency department available for emergencies.

Fever clinics are managed by Hospital and Health Services. View the Queensland Fever Clinic & Respiratory Clinics list  to find your closest location, or contact your GP or local hospital.

To support Queensland’s response to COVID-19, people who do not have adequate insurance coverage and are not eligible for Medicare will not be charged out of pocket expenses if they  present to any Queensland Health facility for assessment in relation to COVID-19 infection.

If anyone in the family is symptomatic please see below, also follow the advice for your health care provider and as per Queensland Health recommendations.  More information can be found at www.covid19.qld.gov.au

I (or someone I live with) is self-isolating - does everyone else need to self-isolate too?

The rest of your household does not need to self-isolate if the symptomatic person  stays away from others in your home. As much as possible, you should:

  • stay in a room away from others
  • sleep in a separate bedroom
  • use a separate bathroom

Also, don't allow visitors into the home.  If you usually live with vulnerable people, like those over the age of 65 with chronic disease, they should stay somewhere else if they can, until you all finish self-isolating.  Your child can finish self-isolating when they have no symptoms (as above) or have a negative COVID-19 swab.

If I or someone I live with tests positive, what should I do?

If your child tests positive to COVID19 please contact the Club COVID Safe Coordinator:

Adrian Pate mobile 0432 699 568 email aranaascot@gmail.com

If tested, when can I return to hockey?

If your test is negative you can return to training/games when well - that is you have no symptoms. However even if you test negative but you still have symptoms you cannot return to training or games.

How often should I clean my hockey gear?

You should clean your hockey gear before and after training (and in Stage 3, before and after each game).
  • Remember to wash/wipe down your stick, shinpads, shoes, gloves, masks.
  • Clean your mouthguard.
  • Wash your hockey clothes.

Goalies too. Your goalie gear will never have smelled that good!

When should I sanitise my hands at training?

You should use hand sanitiser:
  • every time before you enter your training zone
  • every time you leave the training zone
That includes when you go to get a drink during a break in training.
